Class Policies & Guidelines
Important policies, guidelines, and expectations for dance class participation.
To ensure a positive experience for all students and families, please familiarise yourself with our studio policies and guidelines.
Attendance Policy
Regular Attendance
- Regular attendance is essential for your child's progress
- Students who attend consistently get the most from their classes
- Missing multiple classes may affect participation in performances
Notifying of Absences
- Please let us know if your child will be absent
- Log absences through the portal or contact us
- We may follow up on unexplained absences
Arriving Late
- Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts
- Late arrivals may miss important warm-up exercises
- Consistently late arrivals may need to sit out warm-up for safety
Makeup Classes
- Makeup classes may be available subject to availability
- Must be booked through the portal
- Should be taken within the same term
- Not guaranteed for all absences
Dress Code
General Guidelines
- Hair must be neatly secured away from face
- No jewellery (small studs are acceptable)
- Clean, appropriate dance attire
- Proper footwear for each class type
By Dance Style
Ballet
- Leotard in studio colours (ask for details)
- Ballet tights (pink for girls, black for boys)
- Ballet slippers (pink or flesh tone for girls, black for boys)
- Hair in a neat bun
Jazz
- Fitted t-shirt or leotard
- Jazz pants or leggings
- Jazz shoes
- Hair secured back
Hip Hop
- Comfortable athletic wear
- Clean sneakers (indoor only)
- Hair secured comfortably
Contemporary
- Leotard or fitted top
- Leggings or dance shorts
- Usually barefoot or foot undies
- Hair secured back
Uniform Purchases
- Uniforms available through the studio
- Order through the portal or at reception
- Allow 2-3 weeks for orders
Studio Behaviour
Student Expectations
- Follow teacher instructions
- Be respectful to teachers and fellow students
- Try your best and have fun
- Keep hands to yourself
- Raise hand to ask questions
- No food or gum in studios
- Water bottles are encouraged
Parent Expectations
- Support your child's dance journey positively
- Communicate concerns to teachers or admin respectfully
- Ensure your child arrives on time and prepared
- Respect class boundaries (observe from designated areas)
- Keep conversations quiet in viewing areas
Phones and Photography
- Mobile phones should be on silent
- No photography or filming during class without permission
- Special events may have designated photo opportunities
- Respect privacy of all students
Safety
Health and Safety
- Please keep unwell children at home
- Notify us of any injuries before class
- Ensure we have updated medical information
- Emergency contacts must be current
Supervision
- Students should be signed in and out
- Children under 8 must be collected from studio
- Waiting areas are available for parents
- Studio not responsible for unsupervised children
Emergency Procedures
- Emergency exits are clearly marked
- Fire drill procedures are practised
- First aid trained staff on site
- Emergency contact procedures in place
Fees and Payments
Payment Terms
- Term fees due before term commences
- Payment plans available on request
- Outstanding fees may affect participation
Late Payment
- Grace period of 1 week at term start
- Reminder sent for overdue accounts
- Access may be suspended for significantly overdue accounts
Discounts
- Sibling discount: 10% off second child, 15% off third
- Multi-class discount when student takes 3+ classes
- Early bird discount for early term payments
Performances and Events
Concert Participation
- End of year concert is a highlight
- Additional costume and ticket costs apply
- Rehearsals are mandatory in lead-up weeks
- All participating students perform
Costume Requirements
- Costumes organised by the studio
- Costume fees invoiced separately
- Fittings scheduled during term
- Return policy for reusable pieces
Exam Preparation
- Optional formal examinations available
- Additional fees for examination entry
- Extra rehearsals may be scheduled
